Food Storage

So food storage has been on everyones mind lately. I am no exception! Justin and I decided a few months ago that we were going to focus on getting our food storage where it needs to be. So I have been reading and trying to decide how to go about getting a year supply of basics. I started by purchasing a 6 month supply of hard white wheat. Then as I was talking to people Christine Williams told me about a ward that had done a wheat demo and that one of the ladies in their ward was able to get wheat grinders for a great price. I called her and was just going to get a hand grinder for "emergencies" when the power was out and we actually had to live off of the wheat. As I talked more with Justin and discussed our plan I decided to get the electric grinder. I am so happy that I did! I have decided that I am not only going to get a year supply of food but I am going to start incorporating wheat and such into our everyday lives. I feel that I need to help my family be more self sufficient and not have to rely so much on other sources for everything we eat. The great thing about my grinder is it grinds wheat, corn, rice, barley, oats, beans, etc. So I just have to figure out how to use all those types of flour! I know my dad has a great recipe for awesome corn tortillas so now I can grind my own corn meal and make those. I'm sure the possibilities are endless, I just have to do my research! If any of you have tips for me please let me know.

Congrats on your wheat grinder! That is great. I got one for Mother's day and have been looking forward to using it but haven't yet. Enrichment was great last week with all those wheat recipes. You'll have to give me your dad's corn tortilla recipe, I love those!

Oooh, purdy! My mother-in-law gave me an old school one a couple years back and I still love playing with that thing. It makes baby food a cinch!

I'm with you guys - we're just getting started on our years supply and I wish we'd started years ago. But it's a good thing either way. Good luck to both of us!
