Another cake

As most of you know, I enjoy making cakes. I like coming up with an idea and seeing it through to the finish. I do this with most of kids birthday cakes but haven't done much more than that, until now. I got asked to make a cake for a friends baby shower. It was so fun coming up with an idea and then seeing the finished product. The B stands for baby but you could put the initial of the name if you wanted. I used my gum paste flower kit to make the flowers out of fondant and the butterflies are from royal icing. Now don't think that I come up with it all on my own, the Internet is a wealth of information and that is where I get all my help. There are tons of cake websites and I like to browse around to get ideas and then decide what I am going to do. This time I used http://www.pinkcakebox.com/ to get ideas for a shower cake. The one I used was actually a bridal shower cake but I thought it was great. Mine turned out a bit different but I was pleased with the result. It's fun to put it all together but hard to make that first cut into a beautiful cake. And don't think that I am Martha Stewart! You can all do the same, if you have the desire. I have learned some great tricks over the past few years such as freezing the cake before hand to make it easier to work with and carve if you need to. Another great thing is Cake Release from Wilton. It creates this nice soft crust on the outside of the cakes, they come right out of the pans and are easier to frost. Like I said before, the Internet is a wealth of information!

Rachel, I think it looks amazing. Seriously you should be so proud of the way it turned out. I might have to have you show me some of your tricks some day. That would be so much fun for me. Im impressed!!!

You are amazing!! I've tried my hand at decorating and it's good enough for the kids, but to be honest, I don't really enjoy it, hehe. You're quite the artist. And don't knock it because you find ideas other places. That's what life's about - collecting experiences and knowledge and using them!

I've been thinking about you a lot lately and trying to figure out if I can squeeze in some time to come and visit for a day or two. Love you!

Alec walked past and said, "Did Rachel MAKE that?" I said you did and we both decided that at some point, I need to take a class--you are inspiring. It is gorgeous!

I remember even back in college during Mother's Week how you ogled the wedding cakes. Maybe it was because you were crazy anxious to be married or maybe it was because you have an incredibly artistic way with cake! Either way, when it's my birthday, will you bake one for me? I prefer flowers, too! AWESOME!
