Jack

When it happenedA week laterIt's kind of blurry but this is the strip of dried glue that was blocking the cut from healing together. When the PA tried to glue the inside of the cut she squeezed the skin together to get it to stick when that happened the excess glue squeezed out of the cut and dried preventing the outer edges of skin to be pulled together.

With three boys we have had our fair share of injuries and I'm sure we will have plenty more. As many of you know I am not one to rush to the doctor if something happens with the kids, if it is life and death, of course we go but most injuries we try to fix at home. I have been known to use the trusty "super glue" trick to glue cuts closed rather than go in and have the doctor do it. This particular day was April 6th, 2011, Jack was anxious to ride his bike around but there was still snow on the ground so he resorted to riding it in the garage. Unfortunately our garage has plenty of obstacles in it including a large snowmobile. According to Jack he hit the ski of the snowmobile and tipped his bike over right onto a metal part that attaches the ski to the snowmobile. It cut his head wide open, as you can see. Justin and I decided that this wasn't one to use super glue on, it was way too deep and needed some stitching. Unfortunately we weren't able to see our favorite doctor, Dr. Horrocks, and ended up with someone else. This particular person started right in on what happened but wanted Jacks story not ours, I immediately felt like she was acting like we were abusive parents. She asked where I was when this all happened, I was inside cleaning toilets, is that okay, I mean I don't watch my kids every second of every day. Then she proceeded to tell me that super glue was going to be great for this cut! WHAT!! I told her if I would have known that I would have glued it at home myself! Long story short she did a terrible job of gluing it, the cut didn't look any better after a week of healing. I went back to see Dr. Horrocks after a week and he wasn't very happy with the result, he said he would have stitched it, which I knew, and he told me the only thing to do at that point was to see a plastic surgeon to fix the scar. The thing that made me the most mad was when I watched the PA glue the cut, I knew it wasn't closed, I called the clinic back that night to see if I could talk with Dr. Horrocks about it. I left a message at the nurses station and they were so prompt at getting back with me that it was only 5 days later. I was worried that I was being too pushy and wasn't even sure that Dr. Horrocks would fix a colleagues mistakes. So i let it go. BAD MISTAKE!! If I would have gotten a hold of him within a decent time frame there is a possibility that he could have fixed it. Luckily he talked to the billing office and told them not to send us a bill, so one good thing was that we didn't have to pay for the terrible job that was done.
