Reid 2nd Bantam~60lbs and Jack 4th Pre-Bantam~45lbs
Jack and Reid have been doing a bit of wrestling the past month or so and it has been so fun. I, of course, get a little excited and love watching my boys and cheering them on. Reid has done great, in the first two tournaments that he went to he pinned all 6 of his opponents and took first place in both tournaments. He is so fun to watch and is a natural. This is Jack's first year wrestling in actual tournaments and it has been a bit rough. He wrestles hard but is usually crying through some of the match. Don't think that we are making him do it, he wants to, mostly because he sees the medals that Reid has won and wants some for himself. Jack is becoming a better wrestler each time and if he could just use some of his aggression that he has and channel it into his wrestling matches then he would beat all the boys. Reid's first year was the same, there were lots of tears but once they get a feel for how things work and start to learn more skills then they do great. Wrestling is a rough sport and sometimes it's hard to watch when those little boys are crying because they got beat or because it was a tough match but it makes them tough, respectable boys who respect each other. The latest tournament we went to was the state folkstyle tournament in Rexburg. There were kids from all over the state. Both boys had some good competition and did really well. Jack won 1 of 3 matches and took 4th place, he was so excited that he got a medal. Reid did amazing. He had a couple really good matches and found his strongest competition from a boy named Diego Martinez from Boise. They both fought hard and Reid almost had Diego pinned at one point but ended up loosing 7-10. Both boys were very evenly matched but it really came down to Diego knowing more moves than Reid which is our fault for not working more at home. It's hard sometimes to got to these tournaments where the bigger schools have a whole team of boys there to wrestle and have been practicing. Their coaches are there helping them and here we are the only two boys from Teton and we, as their parents, are also their coaches. Not that we want to put the responsibility on anyone but ourselves but it makes us wonder what it would be like to be in a place that has such support from the community and schools and have programs to help these kids get better. This last tournament was at the new Madison High School in Rexburg and it is a beautiful school with so many amenities, oh the opportunities of a bigger school. The best part of the whole tournament was the support that we had as a family. My parents flew down from Alaska to watch our boys and we also had Justin's parents there, Sarah and Eric were there, Jake and Leslie were there, Kelsey was there and Sandra and Monte came towards the end. It was so wonderful of everyone to come and show their support to the boys, it meant alot to them as well as to Justin and me.
