Poultry 4-H 2010

Janie and Braiden Klingler
The two chicken farmersThe trouble maker!
He was being too loud and I couldn't hear what the judge was saying so Grandma Nelson had to take him to get some gum.
Jack-wow his face is somewhat clean!
Listening to the Judge give them pointers.
Reid's turn to present his bird and his knowledge about it.Now Janie's turn to answer a few questions. The whole club
This year I had the privilege of being the poultry 4-H leader for the first time. It was really fun and I learned right along with the kids. The best part was that Janie and Reid were both in my club. We actually "showed" our chickens this year for the first time. We had a judge come and the kids had to present their chickens and the things they learned to this judge. It was quite the experience and I learned a lot about what I need to work on with the kids next year. It was fun because my mom happened to be there the day the kids showed their birds so she got to watch. Janie and Reid did very well, we decided that our grown chickens probably wouldn't cooperate very well when showing so we hatched 5 new chicks and that's what they used when showing. The chickens were about 5 weeks old at the time they showed them. Janie got blue ribbons and Reid got green because he is only 7 and can't technically compete so they were for participation only. We all had fun and plan to do it again next year.

That is cool! Seriously, though, we need to plan to do it together once we move out there!
