Rhode Island Red (got 5 of these)
Black Australorp (got 5 of these)
Red Star Sex Link (got 5 of these)
Buff Orpington (these are so pretty, I want to get one of these.)
Silver Laced Wyandotte (I also want to get one of these)Peaches (the store) is getting some of these and the Buffs in May and June so I may try and get a couple of them just to add to the variety I will already have.
So for the past 18 months or so I have been trying to convince Justin to let me get chickens. He kept saying no. I told him I was trying to help us become more self reliant, he wasn't buying it. But this spring I started really bugging him about it, he didn't actually say yes but he didn't say no so I took that as my chance to jump on the opportunity. I decided on Cackle Hatchery in MO for my order. You only have to buy 15 chicks instead of 25, which most other hatcheries require. I purchased all pullets (females) and we are getting three different kinds, five each of Rhode Island Red, Black Australorp, and Red Sex Link. The kids are so excited and can't wait to get them. That's the only problem, I ordered them the first part of April, thinking they might be here for Easter, boy was I wrong! They won't have my order ready until June 2nd because they are so busy. So for now we are getting the coop built, while Justin still has time to do it, so we are ready when the chicks get here. I am so excited!! We lucked out and have been able to find most of the supplies for really cheap thanks to Eric, my brother in law, and a good friend of ours who works for a construction company.

Have fun with the little chickies!!!
I am just a bit jealous of you. I have wanted Chickens for a very long time...someday I am SURE I will have them. I love the variety you are getting too. They are all so pretty!
That's really cool! I've thought about doing chickens (for the eggs and garden fertilizer) and think my kids would love it, but there's no way I can convince Dan. Good luck getting everything done, and definitely share pictures when you get them!
