Our Alaska Trip

Janie wanted to go swimming in the lake SO bad!
They went, looks fun doesn't it!
Jack wasn't too thrilled after he felt how cold the water was.

My parents were kind enough to let us use some of their mileage tickets so that we could fly to Cordova and visit them. We hadn't been there in almost 4 years so it was fun to see their new house and spent some time in the wild outdoors. We went up on the 15th of July and got to spend a night with Hyrum and Sami, Gracie and Tyler. It was so wonderful to see them but way too short of a visit. We wish we were all closer!! We arrived in Cordova on Thursday afternoon and the weather was great. We got to go out on Eyak Lake and see all of the bald eagles and then spend a nice evening together. Friday we got up and the boys (Grandpa, Justin and Reid) got to take a plane ride to one of the tiny villages north of Cordova, they had a great time. Next it was Mom, Janie and my's turn to go on the plane ride. My moms friend, Jared, has a super-cub and he took all three of us up for some sight seeing. We saw a Mountain Goat, one of the massive glaciers, a bear and the coolest thing was we landed on the beach and got to see a beached whale. A humpback whale died and had washed up on the beach a few weeks prior and we got to see it. Of course it was decomposing and such but it was still awesome to see, it was huge! After we all got back from our plane rides we had dinner and then got to take my dads new ocean boat out for it's maiden voyage. The kids all got to take a turn to drive, the weather was great and we got to see all the beautiful scenery and some sea otters. Saturday was my favorite, we hauled the 4-wheelers out to the glacier, had a picnic, watched the glacier for a while then drove over the million dollar bridge that was just rebuilt. We unloaded the wheelers and drove a ways out. It was so fun! We got to shoot Grandpas 22's and then we rode out to some sand dunes and rolled around in the sand for a while. Both Janie and Reid got to drive the 4-wheelers, which they loved. By the time we got home we were all tuckered out. We had a great time!
